We have received our answers to the next round of G.I. Joe Q&A‘s with the Hasbro G.I. Joe team. We sent in three (3) questions asked by you guys to see what Hasbro’s G.I. Joe design team had to say. We received answers to two of three of the questions sent in, they are all below. Like always, we’ll update the list below, or our Q&A directory here as other sites start posting their responses too. In the meantime, let’s hear your thoughts on the responses.
Enjoy.
Here are the G.I. Joe Round 5 Q&A answers we received”
Q1 — A Lot of Joe fans ask for new figures or characters and several times tooling costs are the reason why figures cannot get made or older parts are reused. Although we know you can’t tell us trade secrets, could you tell us somewhat how the tooling process for our favorite figures comes about? Some people have no idea what “tooling” even is.
A1 — Designing and Manufacturing an action figure takes a lot of time and resources – probably more than one would imagine! First, the Designer’s drawings are translated into 3d by a sculptor or model maker, which costs money and takes time. Next, that model has to be replicated into a rigid model with exact measurements and detail. That model is taken apart and given to a factory who recreates the negative impression of each part in a 2-ton solid steel mold. This final stage is the most instense of all, and although we can go into specifics of cost, we can say that you could get a very nice sports car for the cost of a newly tooled figure. Once the figure is complete, it needs to be mass produced. And with this stage, more costs are incurred. Part of of the Brand team’s job is to keep this figure a great value to the consumer. In order to do this, sometimes tough choices have to be made along the way, such as reducing or eliminating new tooling.
Q2 — Are there any plans to mix classic figures and/or vehicles mixed into new movie line?
A2 — We are really excited about the Movie line! It is shaping up to be a nice mix of classic characters and vehicles with a modern day movie appeal. You should expect to see some familiar vehicles for sure.Q3 — Between Renegades, Resolute, & TF Prime & TF Animated, Hasbro has had a hard time synching toys with tv of late. Is there anything that can be done to improve this going forward, and have the TV toys hit while the shows are airing new episodes?
A3 — No answer.
