There will be many recounting and saying their prayers on this 10-year anniversary, of one of the most tragic events in U.S. history. Today marks the 10th anniversary of when terrorists attacked unarmed American citizens on American soil. I’m sure many can still recount as to where exactly they were that day too.

Former Marvel Editor, Jim Shooter, Reveals Origins of G.I. Joe

Posted by on Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Probably one of the most notable names in comics, especially at Marvel, next to Stan Lee or Jack Kirby is Jim Shooter. He is a man that says what is on his mind and has no remorse in that. Shooter is also a former Marvel Editor and at one time was associated with the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero comic series. And over at his website, he has posted a blog post discussing the origins of G.I. Joe at Marvel Comics.

“Marvel’s involvement with G.I. JOE started in a men’s room.”

Be sure to check out this great post on some very interesting G.I. Joe history.

G.I. Joe Picked in TIME Magazine’s All-TIME 100 Greatest Toys

Posted by on Saturday, February 19th, 2011

misc-joe-newsEarlier this week TIME Magazine published a “All-TIME 100 Greatest Toys” article featuring the100 most influential toys from 1923 to the present. Among the list are many great toy lines and quite a few popular ones from the 80’s that we all collected. G.I. Joe is on the list too. But it is G.I. Joe from the 1960’s! That is right, the original 12-inch G.I. Joe was chosen and the ARAH Joe we all love was overlooked. Now I understand they might not have wanted the same brand on the list twice, but somehow I feel that the 80’s G.I. Joe was more of an influence and cultural phenomenon than the 1960’s version. Am I wrong here? Is it because of my biased thinking growing up on the 80’s ARAH Joes? Either way, still cool to see the brand being recognized. So what do you think?

In Memory of a Fellow G.I. Joe Fan

Posted by on Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Never knowing what to say in these types of situations, I’ve been wanting to say something in the past month, but just haven’t. Well now I feel I definitely should. The Joe Community has lost a great fan, Craig Anderson or as most knew him as, Outrider. Craig passed away from a long fight with cancer the other day. He was a regular over on (or as cradea2 on Flickr) and gave back to the community way more than he ever took. He was a true master of his craft. I could spend hours (and I have) looking at his work. He will truly be missed. Rest in peace.
