Taking Chance

I didn't see this when it originally aired on HBO (didn't have HBO, but do now due to a fluke in Comcast's system ), so I was not aware of it. Well today after I took my dad to his physical therapay (knee replacement surgery), we returned to my parent's house and I had lunch with him and we watched this movie, Taking Chance. All I can say is what a heartache of a film, yet at the same time uplifting (the human spirit is a strong one). Regardless of your stance on the war, this movie is worth watching. It is short, only a hour and 10 or so minutes long, but it will move you. This was one of the most moving films I have ever seen. I was lucky enough to come across it when it first aired on HBO. Kevin Bacon delivered a remarkable performance as Lt. Col.Stobl. It had my mom in tears, and I was on the verge of them myself, so when a movie has that kind of emotional toll, you know it's something special. But the crew of this movie did an awesome job of leaving politics and personal opinions of the war at home, and just focused on the story of Stobl and his escort PFC Phelps.

I have had this movie from Netflix for about 4 months and have not watched it (Sorry Netflix, it should be back tommorrow). Being Memorial Day it seemed appropriate. And it was. This is a short film approx 1 hr 15 minutes or so and a slow peaceful film but, a compelling one. It is truly about honor, dignity and sacrafice. It is easy to forget these individuals and BBQ our hearts away. Being a Marine it meant a lot to me. Being an American it made me realize so much about my positions, politics, faith, country. Just made me think. I will not get in to details as that would cause a whole bunch of political stuff and is usually frowned upon. I will leave you with this statement...

Too much war and too few warriors.
